Read This Diary

CONTENT 25/70

You can only get away with a log-style diary of your activities if you're, say, colonizing a new country or going to war or doing something so completely novel that people would want your diary as a record of what happened. Needless to say, that ain't gonna happen at Diaryland too often.

If you aren't doing exciting stuff, you're gonna have to live or die by your personality and creativity. Find good stories, or tell stories well. If you can't think of anything remotely clever, don't write. Everyone should be allowed to write one entry per diary about having nothing to write about, and should then shut the hell up when they're sitting around in front of the computer with a case of the stupids.

End of rant. Back to review.

There are far too many entries like this one, this one, and this one, loaded with painfully meaningless or boring stuff that the reader neither knows nor cares about. Occasionally there are flashes of personality, as in this entry, but mostly it's idle chatter about school or having nothing to do. And if this is just a log for the author's own reference, why the hell submit it to nine different review sites?

The grammar is clean enough, and spelling's pretty good. Whatever.

STYLE 0/10

The writing is so bland that it negates any personal style. How do you make a line like "I am so multi-talented that it isn't funny" sound boring? Sentences are clear enough and logically arranged, but they're incredibly dull. They make my brain hurt.

Ohand if I spot one more meaningless, mechanical "hehe" or "XD" in one more unfunny sentence, I will hunt down the author and stab him in the eye with a mechanical pencil. I was going to award the author at least a couple of style points for being able to construct coherent sentences, right up until I hit the ninth or tenth cutesy little emoticon or giggle. After that, I just wanted to kill myself.

DESIGN 10/10

Ooh, purty. Full marks for the template, especially since it looks like an original or customized design. Nice layout. Simple, clean, distinctive.

NAVIGATION 5/5

Solid. I can find everything. Boy howdy, there's a lot of contact information.

FREQUENCY 5/5

You update.
