Become Opalescent

First of all, if you're interested in reviewing for this site, God bless you. I need help, and very badly. The requests for reviews have died down over the months, but I'm still knee-deep in pending reviews that never got their fifteen minutes of fame. And you know what happens to a heap of reviews that just sit around for months on end, don't you? They start getting all mouldy and runny, and before you know it, you've got a real mess on your hands. So as of right now, I'm initializing Operation Clean Up Opal, which basically seeks to clear out every single pending review that's been clogging up the arteries of the system. It'll be a real cleansing effect, you'll see.

Anyways, here's what I'm looking for in capable reviewers:

  • I know this seems obvious, but you must have a current diary/blog/journal/etc before you can beging critiquing others. And by "current," I mean that you update your site more than twice a year. I want to see some regularity in your entries; at least two to three times a week. Aside from that, being familiar with Diaryland and Diary-X style is very important. I won't necessarily pass you over if you've got something like a LiveJournal account, but it really isn't fair to anyone requesting a review if you've never experienced a Diaryland system overload. Every blogging server has its own style and its own rules and regulations, so keeping tabs on these things will make your reviews more objective.
  • You must have at least six months to a year's worth of entries on your site. No exceptions. (Applicants who have written for exactly six months' time will be judged a little harder than more established applicants.) If you've written for that long, I can trust that you're dedicated to what you're doing, and that you won't be disappearing any time soon. Besides that, anyone who only has two months' worth of entries can't possibly have the experience to critique another person's style and frequency. Don't even think about asking to bend this rule unless you're the next William Faulkner or Alice Walker. It ain't happenin'.
  • If you've met the previous requirements, you may sign the guestbook and wait for my approval. Honestly, if your site can meet the scoring standards for a normal review, you ought to be just fine.
  • I have the final say in just who will be initiated as a new reviewer here at Opal Reviews. If you're chosen, I'll send an e-mail congratulating you for your work, and offering you the job. If you aren't chosen, you'll still get an e-mail, but it'll probably give you reasons as to why you weren't selected. Don't send hate mail, and don't cloud up the guestbook with complaints. So long as you clean up your act, you can always apply again after a month.
